(Ironically, if corporate personhood were truly abolished, it would also end OSLO's corporate political activities [i.e. since they move, speak and act as a corporate body, rather than as separate individuals] and it would also end OSLO's ability to open a bank account to service their corporate body — an act which they are currently seeking to do ...)
WHY WE OCCUPY #3 Health Care:
"The Obama Administration's Health Care Reform Act of 2010 not only preserves the private health insurance industry, but it gives $447 billion in new taxpayer subsidies directly to insurance companies and mandates that everyone purchase their defective products."
WHY WE OCCUPY #4 The Military Industrial Complex:
"In his 1961 farewell speech, President Eisenhower warned Americans of the growing influence of a corporate-military alliance that could undermine our democracy and plunder our nation's resources for the sake of profit and power. We failed to heed this warning, and today the U.S. exists in... a 'permanent war economy,' where more than half of all U.S. tax dollars are spent on military operations."
WHY WE OCCUPY #5 The Monetary System:
"The wholesale privatization of the money creation process, where all new money is released into circulation in the form of bank loans, and where the U.S. Government is forced to borrow money from the Federal Reserve... before it can spend, enriches private banks at the expense of ordinary Americans, the majority of whom are perpetually in debt."
WHY WE OCCUPY #6 NDAA National Defense Authorization Act:
"The law's vague definition of those subject to detention as well as its application to U.S. citizens has fueled widespread concern and condemnation.... Also, the NDAA specifically redefines the 'battlefield' in the War on Terror to include U.S. soil."
WHY WE OCCUPY #8 The Prison Industrial Complex:
"The exponential rise in the prison population parallels the growth in the private prison industry, which began in 1984 when Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) was awarded its first contract to administer a prison in Hamilton County, TN.... Like the military and biotech industries, the prison industry has used lobbying and political campaign contributions to promote its own growth and profit.... These corporations have also been successful at placing their own lawyers and lobbyists in state offices where 'tough on crime' legislation is being considered."
WHY WE OCCUPY #9 Climate Change:
"There is a worldwide scientific consensus that global warming is caused by human activities — such as deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels — that increases atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases."
(Also ironic, OSLO's embracement of Agenda-21-fueled propaganda explains their further embracement of Agenda-21-fueled deindustrialization programs [such as "Transition Towns"], which, if successful, will result in an unprecendented consolidation of wealth and power into the hands of the oligarchs — the very thing OSLO alleges to be against.
And [with the possible exception of showing up to the Earth Day event and handing out Occucard #9] OSLO does not actively campaign concerning any of these incredibly important issues... which does a lot to explain their effectiveness. [More on this in an upcoming editorial.])
